Named after the largest rough-cut diamond of gem quality ever discovered, the Rolls Royce Cullinan SUV is a rolling embodiment of its namesake legacy. The display now runs Rolls-Royce's latest infotainment system, called Spirit, which was first seen in the electric Spectre. Bluetooth headphones of any type can be paired with the rear seat infotainment system, or clients can listen live to the 18-speaker, 18-channel 1400-watt audio setup. A pair of rear screens are capable of streaming and displaying individual content.

Although it wears an SUV wardrobe, the 2025 Bentley Bentayga delivers the same ultra-luxe experience as its two- and four-door siblings. Not only is it more practical than a Continental GT or a Flying Spur but the Bentayga also happens to be the least expensive model Bentley sells. “Expensive” is still the operative word here as the Bentayga starts above $200,000, ensuring its exclusivity. Two powertrains are available, and both are smooth-running and powerful: a plug-in hybrid V-6 setup with up to 456 hp and a 542-hp twin-turbo V-8. The latter helped the Bentayga bolt to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds in our testing, and we can confirm that the S V-8 version also does an impressive job of taming serpentine roads. This is a refined rocket, though, built for quiet, luxurious cruising as much as sprinting, with a roomy, two-row cabin awash in fine-smelling leather, rich wood, jewelry-like metal trim, and a long list of standard or optional luxury features. Should you be of the chauffeured persuasion, Bentley offers a stretched model with a seven-inch longer wheelbase that adds limo-style room to the second row. The best seat is behind the wheel, though, as the Bentayga is surprisingly athletic and enjoyable on a twisty road, and the V-8 engine delivers delightful thunder along with its impressive performance.

We’re confident the updated Mercedes V-Class will be just as popular as before, but that’s more a comment on its lack of competition than anything else. Mercedes won’t have the premium MPV market to itself for much longer, so the intriguing mild-hybrid petrol version could be crucial.

 Perhaps no other car signifies the power of the Mercedes badge like the V-Class. You might think a van-based people carrier would dilute the prestige of the three-pointed star, but with the V-Class, it reinforces Mercedes’ premium appeal.

You would hope so too, considering the V-Class costs near enough £75,000 in entry-level form. With this mid-life facelift we’ve seen the entry-level AMG Line become a £3,950 optional extra, replaced by the ‘Premium’ version complying with Mercedes’ goal to drive its brand even further upmarket. With this in mind, we a go in the range-topping ‘Exclusive’ to really find out if Mercedes is still the champion of the luxury people carrier.

We say ‘people carrier’ in the loosest possible sense, because instead of the usual eight-seat or seven-seat configuration, the car we’re driving here has the suitably-named ‘VIP luxury seat’ layout in the rear. This means you get two lounge seats in the middle row, with space for two ‘regular’ seats behind, creating a six-seater. With room for fewer passengers, Mercedes says this isn’t going to be the most popular model, but with a focus on opulence it could be the only competitor to the new Lexus LM and upcoming (not yet for UK sale) Volvo EM90.

The Land Rover Range Rover combines an excess of capability, luxury and style to situate itself as one of the best SUVs you can buy. And rest assured: The price is steep. Land Rover redesigned the Range Rover for 2022 and tweaked the engine lineup. The biggest change for 2025 is a new, (relatively) lower-priced version of the plug-in hybrid. Otherwise the big Range Rover is mostly carryover, and considering its bold style and wide-ranging customizability, we think that'll be fine for most shoppers.

 As impressive as the Range Rover's exterior may be, it's the interior that really sets this British SUV apart. The automatic-lowering suspension makes getting in and out of the SUV a snap, and there's NBA-center levels of legroom and headroom for both front and rear passengers. Huge windows provide excellent visibility, and it's easy enough to find a comfortable driving position. Topping it off are high-quality materials such as premium-feeling leather that you'll find throughout the Range Rover's interior. 

 This ultra-luxury SUV spans a wide price range across its various trims and options. At the lower end are vehicles like the Lexus LX 600 and Cadillac Escalade, but move up the ladder and soon you're competing against vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz Maybach GLS. At the top end the Range Rover even goes head-to-head with vehicles like the Bentley Bentayga. On the other hand, if you're willing to sacrifice some luxury and refinement for a notably lower price, the BMW X7 is an excellent "budget" alternative.  Range Rover SV offers greater choice, heightened craftsmanship and tactile enhancements for those seeking true distinction. It's luxury you can touch as well as see. 

The 2025 GLE is Mercedes' midsize SUV, slotting into the range below the three-row GLS and above the two-row GLC. It comes standard with two rows of seats and a third row is optional on most trims, though it's compact enough to only be useful for smaller people. The GLE, including the AMG variants, is offered in six different outputs suited to nearly any taste. There's even a plug-in hybrid. The base trim is the only variant that comes in a rear-wheel-drive version. After a significant revision for 2024, Mercedes made only minor changes to the GLE lineup for 2025. 

 The BMW X5 is a top alternative to the GLE. Like the Mercedes, it provides similar levels of luxury and technology and also a wide range of versions.
